Newsletter Feature – Keeping up with Coffee Club!

Back in action after a pandemic hiatus, it’s Coffee Club! Caleb really enjoyed being a part of the Area 51 Coffee Club through Community Choices prior to the COVID shut-down. When the prior organizer wasn’t able to continue getting the group together this past year, Caleb accepted the organizer position and restarted Coffee Club.

The group meets twice a month, with Caleb sending reminders to other group members. Caleb has said that he really enjoys having coffee and hanging out with friends, and that really wanting to do that again gave him the confidence to step into the organizer role.

When asked what advice he would give to someone wanting to start or join a co-op club, Caleb said, “First find an activity people enjoy doing and then find a good day and time to get together.”

Great job making fun things happen for yourself, Caleb! We’re glad the group likes meeting up with each other!

Coffee Club is one of the co-op clubs created in our Connect department. Co-op clubs are member-led small groups built around shared interests. While Community Choices staff is present for support in the beginning, the goal is for the members to eventually take over responsibilities and run the club themselves, just like Caleb is doing with Coffee Club!

If you’re a member with a disability and interested in starting a co-op club of your own, contact one of our Connect coordinators!
