Meet our Great Community Cake Off judges!

Kayla Brown

White woman with red hair poses behind a store counter

Kayla Brown is the owner of Fire Doll Studio in Downtown Champaign. While it started as a fun holiday side-hustle in the kitchen of a studio apartment in 2011, Brown has grown Fire Doll into a bustling brick-and-mortar candle-making studio and independent brand. Not only does the business offer candle-making events for the community at large, but it is also a thriving nationwide online retailer, wholesaler, and subscription box service provider.

Fire Doll Studio was a recent recipient of a Champaign County Tourism Impact Award, Women’s Net Distinguished Business Award, Illinois Made Program Inductee, and Brown herself was a member of Central Illinois Business’ 40 Under 40 Class of 2022.

Mike Ingram

Mike Ingram is a longtime local musician and community activist with a focus on social justice and lifting all boats with a rising tide. He most frequently plays in soul/R&B group New Souls or with Fire Doll’s Kayla Brown as Mike & Kayla. He sits on several nonprofit boards including C-U One-to-One Mentoring and 40 North, along with serving as the vice chair of the Planned Parenthood IL Future of Choice board. Every year he bugs every person he meets to see if they have coats to donate to various local agencies, and he created and runs a yearly prom attire giveaway for students in the region. In 2020 he decided to run for the position of Champaign County Recorder of Deeds on the platform of eliminating the position, which he did after he won, effectively un-electing himself.

He and his wife Rachel are trying to keep their plants alive in a house in Champaign.
